Lindsay van der Byl started cycling from the Union Buildings and is heading to Parliament all to raise awareness about the importance of reading in SA.
Last year Lindsay van der Byl cycled from the Union Buildings in Pretoria to Parliament in Cape Town to raise awareness about reading and to collect and distribute books. He did the trip solo and faced many obstacles.
Lindsay nearly lost two fingers to frostbite, he got robbed of his possessions and got to see the very best and worst of what South Africa has to offer. However, all of this has not stopped him from taking up the challenge once more.
He started his 2017 journey on the 25th of September and will ride across the country until the 8th of October. Lindsay was voted as the LeadSA Hero of July for his continuous efforts in promoting the importance of reading. This passion for reading started as a young boy, he used to walk 7km just to get to the library.
“I started reading and developed a love for reading… and became very inquisitive… That is where for me, I realised reading can really change your life.” – Lindsay van der Byl, Founder of Cycle4Change
Lindsey is on the road as you read this, his last update was posted from Kroonstad. The next will come when he stops in Welkom. We wish him luck and safe travels on his journey!
You can support the cause by collecting books to hand over at the end of the cycle; the books will be handed over to an identified community. Find out more on the Cycle 4 Change Facebook page.
