16-year old teen Reece Trumpelmann, from Benoni and his family, have been fighting a brave battle for the past 6 years. Jacaranda FM’s Good Morning Angels stepped in.
South Africa (13 July 2021) – Teen Reece Trumpelmann is the focal point of the Good Morning Angels fund’s June charity drive. The 16-year-old and his family have been fighting a brave battle with a rare inherited disorder known as Gorlin-Goltz syndrome for 6 years.
Benoni-based Reece was diagnosed with the disease when he was 10-years-old. He is one of only three known cases in South Africa, and his condition is considered the worst. The disease has caused tumours in his body, mostly in his jaw. To date, he has had more than 40 tumours removed.
With no known cure and deteriorating health, Reece’s mom Marsha has become his constant caregiver for the past three years.
His dad works hard to pay medical aid expenses and general bills, but the family is struggling to keep up with ongoing treatment costs and have fallen behind on their electricity bill, which is now R39 000 in arrears.
Marsha says they would not have been able to get this far without the additional assistance of their community. But despite these efforts, the power to their home has been cut, and they now use a generator to keep Reece’s oxygen machine running at night, as he can’t survive a night without oxygen.
In the face of the family’s dire situation, Lauren Oelofsen and several other community members have approached Jacaranda FM’s Good Morning Angels fund to help the Trumpelmann’s get their electricity back on so that Reece can have a fighting chance.
Even in the face of such adversity, Reece is still determined to finish matric and become a game ranger one day. He was unable to go to school for a few years, but thanks to a good tutor and hard work, he is now working on completing Grade 10 this year – right on schedule!
To secure Reese’s future, fundraising is crucial. This can be done through Good Morning Angels, the recipient charity of the LottoStar “How Lucky Can You Get” competition on Jacaranda FM.
From the funds raised in partnership with Maria Pavli and LottoStar, the Good Morning Angels Fund NPC will assist Reece and his family with R50 000 – to pay their overdue electricity account and contribute to medical bills.
