Bloemfontien, South Africa (21 June 2023) – Meals on Wheels Community Services teamed up with The Grey College’s soccer team to pack dignity packs filled with items needed by those less fortunate. The school visited the organisation’s warehouse to make up the packs. The dignity packs include sanitary towels, soap, a facecloth, a toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant and a comb.

The Grey College students were from various soccer teams and they gladly accepted the challenge from Meals on Wheels. They were given the chance to see first-hand how the packs will make an impact in communities.

“We are happy to join hands with Grey College to teach and equip today’s youth to build future leaders. Meals on wheels community services South Africa is looking forward to our future activations with the team” – Angelique Murphy, a representative of Meals On Wheels

Meals on Wheels Community Services was founded in 1964 by Doctor Denis Baird. In light of the severe need amongst the ageing community in East London (South Africa), Dr Baird launched a fundraising project aimed at financing the first-ever Meals on Wheels delivery vehicle. He then gathered a few caring ladies, and arranged to use a local church kitchen during weekdays to cook meals and distribute them to the elderly in need.
