An unknown teen pulled a Durban woman through the passenger window moments before the car was completely submerged in water to save her.
It’s one of the stories of heroism to emerge following days of heavy rainfall and flooding in the city, as well as snowfall in areas like Kokstad and the Berg.
Shakila Singh told Newswatch she was on her way to pick up her daughter when she found herself in a difficult situation with her car stuck under the M4 in La Lucia.
She says she got into a panic when she couldn’t control the car, which began floating in circles.
She could not open the doors and the vehicle was filling with water. It all happened quite quickly and she didn’t even get time to thank the teen, after the fact.
Shakila Sister posted a plea on Facebook searching for the guardian angel who saved her.
“I think about it now and I am unbelievably grateful that you were not hurt. Things could have gone so wrong, so much more than it already did….Here I was sitting at Lanseria Airport when my sister sends me a pic of her car submerged in water.
Horrified doesn’t even begin to describe what I felt. Shakila went to pick up my niece from work when she got stuck in some water under the M4 in La Lucia. She couldn’t reverse or go forward. Within a few minutes and before she knew what was happening, water was flooding in on her from all sides!!! Her car was swirling around and she lost all control.
The drivers side of the car was almost completely covered in water. She put her hand through a gap in the window and waved trying to get someone’s attention, anyone’s attention. Her guardian angel came in the form of a grade 11 student who is apparently a life guard as well. He got into the water and got her out through the passenger seat. His dad comforted Shakila and then they left before she could do so much as say thank you.
To the young man who was responsible for saving my sisters life….we are forever in your debt. If you were just a few minutes earlier or a few minutes later to that area, I shudder to think what could have happened. If you are reading this please get hold of my sister Shakila Singh, she desperately needs to make contact with you.
Please share so we can find this precious soul. You are living proof that Angels walk amongst us. May God bless you for all the days of your life!
And to Shakila, I don’t have the words to tell you how happy I am to have you safe and still in our lives. God has greater plans for you. You are not going anywhere anytime soon. I love you more than you will ever know..”
The post was shared thousands of times where it finally reached Robyn White, the mom of Cameron… the 17 year old guardian angel who saved Shakile.
The Umhlanga teenager who rescued Shakile from her flooded vehicle in La Lucia says he never thought twice about trying to save her.
Cameron and Shakile were united and able to share their joy with each other.
