Hopelands Village, a haven and largely hidden gem for abandoned babies and children received a special surprise from the KnitWits thanks to their carefully created bundles of joy filled with blankets and toys!
Magaliesburg, South Africa (07 March 2024) — Hopelands Village, a largely hidden Gem in Magaliesburg, got a special surprise from the 67 Blankets for Mandela Day’s KnitWits!
A sanctuary for abandoned babies and children, Hopelands’ Stephan and Sharon Lamprecht welcomed the KnitWits’ bundles of joy—carefully knitted toys and blankets which will make a big difference in lives that need all the warmth of love they can get.
The KnitWits are no strangers to acts of knitted kindness. Although their group may be led by 67 Blankets for Mandela Day, founded by Carolyn Steyn, their efforts can be felt year-round all over South Africa.
Among the small, but ever-impactful acts of kindness, the KnitWits have also crocheted massive pieces—like the biggest Springbok blanket for charity, the national roadshow wonders that warmed hearts from Jozi to the Cape and even a crochet Christmas tree (which was dismantled and sewn into blankets for people in need).
But big or small, thought goes into it all.
As Jaco Lötter, Carolyn Steyn’s personal assistant shared:
“The love and support shown to these precious babies warms our hearts and reminds us of the power of kindness and compassion. Today was a reminder of the beauty that exists in the world, thanks to the selfless acts of those who give so much of themselves to help others.”
