One of SA’s most iconic views just became more inclusive!
Cape Town, South Africa (28 April 2026) – SANParks and the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway Company have opened a new Universal Access Walkway at the top of the mountain!
The new feature gives wheelchair users, people with prams, and visitors with mobility challenges the ability to move around the Table Mountain summit safely and independently.
“By prioritising universal access, it contributes to creating welcoming public spaces and ensures that more people can independently enjoy the natural beauty of Table Mountain National Park.” shares SANParks.
Previously, reaching the summit independently wasn’t as straightforward for everyone. Now it is, for many families, older visitors, and people with disabilities who visit one of the most iconic landmarks in the world.
SANParks and TMACC say the project was driven by a commitment to inclusivity and dignity, and the idea that South Africa’s natural heritage should be accessible to everyone who wants to experience it.
“This milestone reinforces the importance of inclusive tourism and equal access to South Africa’s natural heritage.”
As an example of what inclusive tourism can look like in practice, this walkway sets a solid standard for other iconic sites to follow!
