Jannie and Bok are embarking on an extraordinary 1,200km wheelbarrow challenge. Their ambitious journey, which involves pushing wheelbarrows from Leipoldtville to Alexander Bay and back, entirely self-supported, aims to raise crucial funds for furry friends in need.
Leipoldtville, South Africa (19 March 2025) – Two dedicated individuals, Jannie and Bok, will undertake a 1200km wheelbarrow challenge, pushing their wheelbarrows from Leipoldtville to Alexander Bay and back—all without backup vehicles. Why, you may wonder – to rally support and raise vital funds for Rural Angels Animal Welfare.
Everything they need, from food to essentials, will be carried in their wheelbarrows.
This challenge builds on a previous 1,107km journey, which was dedicated to raising funds and awareness for Animal Lives Matter Too. Unfortunately, the fundraising efforts fell short due to the timing coinciding with the vacation season.
Now, they are taking on an even greater journey to raise awareness and much-needed funds for vulnerable animals.
Animal heroes pushing limits and wheels.
This mission is deeply personal and critical for Jannie and Bok, as Rural Angels Animal Welfare relies on donations to continue their work in rural communities. Their efforts include sterilisations, medication, and veterinary care for animals in need.
As passionate advocates for animal welfare, the pair find it heartbreaking to turn away sick or injured animals, but the costs of these services are substantial. Additionally, they support underprivileged households by providing dog food, sterilizations, and basic veterinary care.
The upcoming wheelbarrow challenge of 1200km will cover approximately 400km through remote and desolate areas where resources are limited, including access to fresh water. This journey is about more than just breaking a record; it is a test of resilience and determination to overcome adversity for the causes they are truly passionate about.
For them, it’s a personal mission to prove that no challenge is too great when it comes to making a difference.
To prepare for the trek commencing on 4 April, they are building custom wheelbarrows equipped with solar panels to power their cell phones and GPS trackers during the long, isolated stretches of the journey.
One wheelbarrow is already complete, and the second will be finished once the solar panels arrive. This innovative approach ensures they stay connected and safe while pushing through the toughest parts of their route.
For Bok and Jannie, this challenge is more than a physical test—it’s a testament to their commitment to making a difference for animals and communities in need!
