Jeppe High School for Girls’ matric learners started the school year on the best note – doubling up on a sarmie goal that fed hundreds of hungry bellies!
Johannesburg, South Africa (06 February 2026) – The Jeppe girls are champions for good.
Giving back is the golden thread that runs through most of the stories we’ve covered about the school.
They’ve filled up an entire field with blankets collected for Mandela Day. They’ve knitted for charity. When matric learners reached the end of their journey last year, they generously left their school shoes behind for learners from disadvantaged backgrounds.
The good just keeps on giving!
Now entering their final year at school, Jeppe’s matric class started the academic year off on the best note. As part of the school’s community outreach programme supporting underprivileged learners, learners set out with the simple plan of making sarmies.
The goal was 300, but Jeppe girls don’t do anything small. They doubled up on it!
“Today our Matric class truly went above and beyond. Not only did they meet their target of 300 sandwiches, they exceeded it, donating an incredible 656 sandwiches to our community outreach programme supporting underprivileged learners.” the school shared in pride.
It gives us hope. If this is a reflection of how compassionate and giving South Africa’s youth can be now, there’s a world of greater potential they’ll meet in the next decade.
“Thank you, Matrics, for your generosity, compassion and for setting such a powerful example for the rest of the school. And to our parents, thank you for your continued support and contributions, this initiative would not be possible without you.” the school added.
Good Things Guy knows it best – change can start with something as small as a sandwich! Well done to Jeppe High School for Girls who have set a shining example for fellow learners and schools to follow along.
