The Emzini Tours offer a Township Tour of a local township in Knysna, their latest newsletter is going viral for sharing all the good news after the fire!
Emzini Tours isn’t new to Good Things Guy, we previously shared a story about Penny and Ella, and how they use their tours to create a responsible tourism within the poor community, creating an income for the company and ensuring the community is uplifted!
Penny confirmed that the main safe house they support is fine and all the children are doing well. The township however has mostly been destroyed.
“Ella and I have been to the township with a team, and mingled with the people who have lost homes. Most are staying with friends, and others are living in partially burnt homes with what they have left. The town and country have rallied together and provided basic things like food, water and blankets. The Municipality is underway to put up temporary dwellings before they can build new homes for everyone.”
“At the moment it is just survival. The one thing people need are big plastic basins, paraffin heaters, pots and pans, mattresses etc. as they now have access to food and blankets.”
In the township there are also displaced dogs, they spent the morning feeding the dogs they found and making sure they had shelter.
“We are trying to feed as many as we can wherever we go in the township. Look to see which dogs have puppies and no shelter, as we have another 5 kennels that have been donated, and we want to give these to dogs with puppies.”
Most of the tour companies benefactors are international tourists that have visited the township on their previous trips. The company received many questions from people to make sure that the township was okay, that inspired the newsletter which is now going viral because of its on the ground information.
“The focus now is all positive, to rebuild, and keep tourism alive in Knysna, as we all need it to keep us going.”
The work this company does within the community is outstanding!
