A group of foster mothers recently gathered to celebrate the fruits of their labour and boundless love in raising children in need of loving families, helping them become the flourishing young adults they are today.

KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa (07 April 2025) – In the rolling hills of rural KwaZulu-Natal, where cows and goats wander freely and communities are woven together by generations of tradition, something extraordinary has been quietly unfolding.

For years, a small group of dedicated foster mothers gathered regularly in one of these remote villages. Their mission? To support each other through the ups and downs of raising children in foster care—children who, through no fault of their own, needed a safe, loving family to belong to.

Recently, this group met for one final time. Not because their journey had ended—but because their purpose had been fulfilled. The children they once received into their homes with open arms and open hearts are now thriving young adults, standing tall with dreams of their own. Some are studying at college. Others are working. All of them are deeply rooted in the families that chose to love them.

At their closing celebration, stories flowed as freely as the laughter and tears. One mother shared:

“When my daughter died, she left me with her daughter, who is the same age as my foster child. They grew up together. I know it was God’s plan—both of them needed love and a mother.”

It’s not just about providing shelter. It’s about giving children a chance to heal, to belong, and to grow up in a family that sees their worth. These women—many of whom have been fostering for over two decades—spoke with immense gratitude for the support they received from Give a Child a Family Africa (GCF).

Through parenting training, support groups, and regular check-ins, GCF walked this journey with them.

“The training didn’t just help us with our foster children,” said another mother.

“It helped us become better parents to all the children in our homes.”

A cake was shared, and certificates were handed out; the atmosphere was one of pride and peace. Monica, the GCF facilitator who guided the group, summed it up beautifully:

“From the first meeting, I felt embraced by you. I have learned so much from your wisdom as mothers and strong women of faith.”

Though the group meetings may have ended, the love and commitment in this community haven’t. These bonds—between mothers, children, and GCF—will remain strong for years to come.
