South Africa is having a ‘little things meaning a lot’ moment thanks to the Checkers Minis craze! But, some people are paying the fad forward in the most heartwarming ways like Anet Sauer who used the Minis to make a difference and feed animals at a shelter!
Viljoensdrif, South Africa (08 November 2024) — It’s no secret that South Africans have been laser-focused on the little things as of late, thanks to the Checkers’ Minis craze sweeping the country.
What initially began as a fun treat for shoppers quickly became something of its own currency as people continue to trade their Minis amongst each other; bartering for real goods and even trading for cash! (The rand would do well to watch out with the minis on the scene).
But some people, like Anet Sauer, have seen a way to pay the fad forward and used their mini-powers for good.
Recently, Anet saved the Viljoensdrif-based Purrpaws for Life Rescue Centre a lot of sleepless nights during a tough time in which the team found themselves running short on funds. Anet decided to start a minis collection for the no-kill rescue centre in exchange for food to feed their animals in need; resulting in a bakkie load of essential goods.
Thanks to this effort, Purrpaws were able to receive over 300kgs of dog food, 20kgs of cat food and 190 cans of tinned food as well as blankets, jackets for the dogs and even bedding.
“We needed this miracle and she made it happen for us!” The shelter shared with enormous gratitude.
So, if you’re stacking up the minis and are facing a void and wondering what to do with them, consider taking Anet’s lead and using the little things to make a big difference.
