Gerry Van Niekerk had a dizzy spell in his local store and was overcome with warmth and care that he received when he regained consciousness.
South Africa – Gerry Van Niekerk was standing in the queue at his local store when his world started to spin. He reached out his hand to the woman standing near him before he collapsed.
In his most vulnerable moment, Gerry was blessed to meet some of the most caring people.
As he woke from his dizzy spell, he opened his eyes to a group of highly concerned faces. Embarrassed, he tried to sit up, but his fellow customers and the Checkers staff urged him to sit calmly.
He was given an apple juice and some yoghurt to help spike his sugars. Gerry was overwhelmed with the spirit of Ubuntu and thankful for the helping hand he received after his dizzy spell. He took to Facebook to share his fantastic experience.
“I am so grateful to the people at Checkers shopping centre. While grocery shopping on Wednesday evening, I suddenly didn’t feel well, stretched out my hand for help to a lady next to me in the queue, had somewhat of a blackout and collapsed.
I remember waking up as staff and customers let me sip some apple juice and fed me yoghurt. God bless you my earthly and heavenly angels. There are good people out there and I hope that this story will encourage someone.”
It’s stories like these that warm our hearts and give people hope when times are tough. Tell us, what is your latest experience of Ubuntu in South Africa?
