Cape Town, South Africa (06 October 2022) – The “Rest ur Ass Donkey Sanctuary” is about to have a very well-travelled herd of rescue donkeys. Just kidding, they are not really travelling anywhere, but they will be cheering on Tracey Joy Christie, who is running her first marathon in their honour.

To raise funds for the sanctuary, Tracey has been inviting the public to sponsor each donkey’s virtual airfare so a small part of them can be with Tracey in Cape Town when she runs the Cape Town Marathon.

“I have asked people to pick their favourite donkey and sponsor him/her a virtual plane ticket to come to Cape Town with me.

They have three options
First-class R200
Business R150
Economy R100″

While the donkeys may not really be flying, this form of fundraising has proven to be a great success for Tracey. She has managed to raise over R13,000 towards her goal of R15,000.

Rest Ur Ass is a donkey sanctuary based in Johannesburg. They provide a forever home to abused and abandoned donkeys. The sanctuary is currently caring for 107 donkeys. Last year we shared the story of Grace, who was saved thanks to an expensive but life-saving leg surgery.

This will be Tracey’s first full marathon so she is choosing to use it as a way to support her favourite causes. She started running a short time ago but dedicated herself to completing half marathons until she had built up the stamina to take on a full one.

“I have not been running for very long so this is going to be a challenge, but for the animals, I will do anything.”

You can support Christie and the donkeys by visiting the Rest ur Ass Facebook page here.
