Mark Pilgrim shared his cancer diagnosis in early March and has promised to share his journey along the way; it is genuine, honest and hopeful.

Johannesburg, South Africa (30 March 2022) – South African radio presenter Mark Pilgrim shared his scary cancer news earlier this month and promised to smile, even when he is afraid. This diagnosis comes after 33 years of being in remission. He has stuck to his promise, and while he does share his smiles, he also shares his honest experience through his first round of treatment.

In Mark’s youth, he was diagnosed with stage 4 testicular cancer, which spread to his lungs and kidneys. He fought cancer off and had been in remission until his recent diagnosis of stage 4 lung cancer.

When facing a life-threatening cancer diagnosis, it can be challenging and smiling through the bad parts can be inspiring not only for yourself but for others battling this disease too. Mark’s followers have flooded his posts with support and words of encouragement.

Mark is a radio presenter with a career that has touched many lives. Over the years, he has worked as a DJ on 5FM, 94.7 Highveld Stereo, 94.5 Kfm, Hot919 and is currently a presenter with Hot102.7fm for the 9 am to 12 pm show.

He hopes that treatment will allow him to continue his love of radio. He has been in the studio this week, nebuliser in tow, to reach many of his listeners who have been following his journey.

And his final goal is to walk alongside others battling cancer too. This is not a new part of Mark’s life, though; over the years, he has been passionate about fighting cancer, raising awareness and inspiring others. He has shared that even on his bad days, he knows the better ones are coming.

“If you are going through a similar battle, know this, you are not alone. Let’s fight together in spirit… everyday.” – Mark Pilgrim
