Mighty Mack’s family are highlighting the incredible organisation Rainbows and Smiles in honour of International Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.
Johannesburg, South Africa (05 September 2022) – September is International Childhood Cancer Awareness Month; one of the most followed stories on Good Things Guy, was Mighty Mack’s.
Mighty Mack was formally diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia (AML) on Wednesday, 12th of May, 2021 and confirmed cancer-free on the 13th of April, 2022. If you have missed her cancer journey, we detailed it here on Good Things Guy.
Mighty Mack’s Army was created to find a donor match but it is now being used to raise awareness about childhood cancer and offer support to the organisations working within the non-profit space. One of those close to the family’s hearts is the Rainbows and Smiles Foundation.
Rainbows and Smiles is a non-profit organisation that focuses on helping children with cancer. They visit cancer wards and add smiles to the children fighting their biggest battles.
What many people don’t know about childhood cancers is that they take much longer to treat than adult cancers. Some of the children in cancer wards will spend most of their time there. These wards become their homes and norms.
Rainbows and Smiles works to remove a bit of the clinical edge of life in hospitals. They visit the children and spoil them with gifts. This is a great distraction from living in a cancer ward.
Yesterday Mighty Mack’s family got the news that she is still doing well and her bloodwork is looking good. She got to spend the weekend at her very first carnival and is howing a great appreciation for all the car rides.
In light of the awareness month and all the support recieved since Mack’s diagnosis, her family are asking that supports head on over to the Rainbows and Smiles Foundation and give them a follow. You can do that here.
