Mother-of-three with stage 4 cancer faces a race against time to raise money.
South Africa (11 June 2021) – Cash for Ash is a fundraising movement made for Ashley Rudlings by her friends to cover her hospital treatment. Ashley Rudlings, who is mother to Gabriel, Addison and Grace, and wife to Steve, is said to be an incredible mom and a devoted wife.
Her friends say she is the most kind-hearted person on this planet, but fate dealt her a blow when she was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer in her thyroid. The cancer has now spread to her back and liver.
The type of cancer Ashley has, requires very specific treatment. A tablet called Vandertanib, which is not available in South Africa, and it costs R115 000 per month. It won’t heal her cancer; instead, it will help stop it from progressing further and give her a second chance at life.
At a point, Ashley had to stop working due to intense back pain, and when Covid hit, she cancelled her life insurance policies as she could no longer afford them.
Her medical aid declined to contribute to her treatment and instead approved 12 boxes of panado. It was hard for Ashley and her family, from finding out about her cancer to all the financial worries that came with it.
Her friends decided to create a fundraising movement for her on social media platforms such as Facebook, naming it ‘CASH FOR ASH’. They said they’d go to the ends of the earth for her. When they told Ashley that they had created it for her treatment, she just cried and said she doesn’t feel the worth.
The friends went live on Facebook over the weekend and raised approximately R26 000 on the crowdfunding platform BackaBuddy and R25 000 on the CASH FOR ASH Account.
People have been adamant about raising funds and showing love. If anyone wants to help with Ashley’s treatment, here is a link to her fundraising account.
