Motorcyclists are showing up for orphaned and abandoned elephants this weekend!
Muldersdrift, South Africa (21 January 2026) – We already know that most bikers are as kind as they come. In October last year, Cape Town’s biking community rolled up with three massive trucks of goodies for the city’s annual Toy Run.
This Saturday, another compassionate community of bikers is rallying for the ellies. Johannesburg-based motorcycle social club, Fiery Octopus, will be hosting a charity poker run starting in Muldersdrift and travelling across five stops.
At every stop, each player will draw a poker card. By the final leg, the person with the best hand wins. There will be loads of time for riding and socialising in between. It’s a great chance to get to know other bikers and do a good thing while you’re at it…
The motorcycle social club was founded by Kyle Malyon who completed a 21-day motorbike ride across South Africa last year, raising funds for orphaned elephants under the care of HERD.
This weekend’s poker run, now in its third year, will once again raise funds for HERD – a cause close to Kyle’s heart.
“I have always had a passion for elephants. When I discovered HERD and how they look after orphaned and abandoned elephants, it just seemed the right organization to assist. There are 17 elephants currently in their care.”
All proceeds raised from the poker run’s R100 entry fee will go directly towards the organisation.
In the biking community, Kyle says kindness shows up by the bucket load. A trend we’ve noticed over the years, too.
“I always find it amazing that no matter the cause, if there’s a call to assist, our nationwide community always comes out in numbers…”
There will be prizes. Cool bikes. Love for the elephants. It’s going to be a lekker time.
