Massimo’s has the “best pizza in Africa” and even better hearts! Whenever there is a need, Massimo and his team come up with a way to give back.

Cape Town, South Africa (15 April 2020) – Massimo’s – a pizzeria in the Western Cape – set the goal to raise R150,000, and they are almost there!

Massimo’s has the “best pizza in Africa” and even better hearts! Whenever there is a need, Massimo and his team come up with a way to give back.

Massimo and Tracy are a fantastic couple who opened an Italian restaurant in Hout Bay called Massimo’s in 2009. They are incredibly passionate about food, their clients and South Africa!

They started a “pay-it-forward” campaign at the beginning of 2015 to make it easier for the Hout Bay community to give back. While they were open, Massimo’s clients could buy one or more R10 ‘virtual’ slices of pizza, and for every six slices sold, Massimo’s would deliver an entire pizza to a local charity or institution.

Like every business, they were forced to close their doors during this lockdown. That wouldn’t stop Massimo from paying it forward.

The team turned to BackaBuddy, a proudly South African crowdfunding platform, to raise money to assist the community of Hout Bay. They set a goal to raise R150,000.00 and have almost achieved it. To date, they have raised R136,653.78.

“Massimo’s restaurant in Hout Bay is currently closed, but owners Massimo and Tracy, with managers Anton and Chris will keep the kitchen open and prepare meals to be distributed to the needy, in collaboration with ‘Gracie love in a bowl’ and ‘Community Cookup IY’

Many people will be out of work, kids out of school (where they used to get the only meal for the day), infected will be stuck home.

We need everyone’s help and we are already stretched by having to pay our staff at home and the rent. We can only do this with your help.

We hope to give some support and show others this can be done with the collaboration of everyone.

We will buy vegetables, pasta, rice and all is needed to prepare healthy meals.”

The fact that the community has showered them with praise and funding is a testament to the excellent work that the team does within the Hout Bay community already!
