Acting National Police Commissioner Kgomotso Phahlane’s given a shining example of police work after he fended off two robbers at a Spar in Rosebank.
Police have confirmed that acting National Police Commissioner Khomotso Phahlane sustained minor injuries during an attempted robbery at a spa in Rosebank.
It’s understood Phahlane was accompanying his wife to a spa when two men, wearing balaclavas and carrying guns, entered the building.
“The Acting National Commissioner accompanied his wife to Spar in Rosebank and was waiting in the car.”
Phahlane was waiting for his wife to finish shopping when he noticed two men entering the Spar wearing balaclavas and armed with pistols, Mulaudzi said.
“[The national commissioner] went into action. He fought with the two guys with the view to take away the firearms. [He] managed to ward them off and they ran away.”
Police say a scuffle ensued between Phahlane and the two suspects before they escaped.
No one has been arrested but police are continuing their investigations.
Hawks spokesman Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi says no items were taken from the premises.
“There was a scuffle between the acting police commissioner and the two suspects. They then ran away and as they ran, a suspect fired a shot. They got into a silver Golf which is now the subject of the investigation.”
He added that no one was injured.
“The commissioner [sustained] minor injuries because of the scuffle. But he is fine.”
