Doctor Ryan Coetzee works at the Causeway hospital and recently went viral for singing to a young patient that came in very ill, the boy woke up and loved it.
Northern Ireland – Doctor Ryan Coetzee is singing his patients into good spirits. While tending to a sleeping, sickly boy, he was singing along to George Ezra’s ‘Shotgun’. Oscar McLaughlin woke up and started smiling, saying he had heard his doctor singing in his dreams and it made him very happy.
He then started singing for the boy and was filmed while doing it. The video was put online, and the South African born doctor went viral.
Working in the Children’s Ward at the Causeway Hospital in Northern Ireland, Doctor Ryan now sings down the halls and takes any requests a sickly child has. He hopes his little performances bring joy and comfort in an uncomfortable place.
He knows that music cannot alleviate pain, but music therapy plays a good roll in recovery. He now sings to as many children as he can on his rounds, bringing them some happiness and hopefully a good laugh too.
Take a look at his interview with Utv below.
