Olympic gymnast Simone Biles Owens and her husband have finally embarked on their long-awaited honeymoon that’s featured adventures on South African soil, encounters with elephants and a stop to meet little tots at a local non-profit Early Development Centre!
South Africa (21 February 2025) — Olympic gymnast and legendary Simone Biles Owens has finally embarked on her long-awaited honeymoon alongside her husband, NFL star Jonothan Owens. Where in the world did this famed couple decide to celebrate? South Africa, of course!
Mr and Mrs Owens made it official in 2023. But, considering the 2024 Paris Olympics season and the busyness that comes part and parcel with being successful athletes, the Owens ended up waiting two years before they could finally enjoy their honeymoon.
Amid other stops on their honeymoon itinerary, South Africa has been the latest.
With stops to visit the Jabulani Herd (yes, the same one that HERD orphaned elephants join when they are ready) and game ride adventures featuring zebras’ snacking and leopard-spotting, it comes as no surprise that the couple have been all smiles throughout their trip.

In a heartwarming moment, the two also visited non-profit Xilaveko Daycare Centre that was started by Jabulani’s own Obert Chauke! Alongside his wife Ivy, the Daycare Centre looks after children in the area who are four-years-old or younger.
Simone and her husband visited the little tots, and gifted them warm blankets knitted by the senior centre.
The athlete commended Obert and the Xilaveko team for their work, sharing:
“[They are] literal saints and we had such a good time visiting the kids. We need more people like Obert.”
