The Collen Mashawana Foundation brought a day of joy and much-needed support to 400 special needs learners at Adelaide Thambo School in Soweto.

Soweto, South Africa (12 March 2025) – Far too many children are faced with overwhelming socio-economic challenges that negatively affect their schooling experience. Looking to bring much relief and support to school children who live this experience daily, on top of physical disabilities and learning disabilities, was the Collen Mashawana Foundation.

The Foundation’s founder, together with a team of dedicated volunteers, recently spent a day showing 400 special needs learners of Adelaide Thambo School in Soweto love and seeing them for the incredible young people they are with so much to offer.

Founded 45 years ago, the school serves nearly 400 children with physical disabilities, supported by a dedicated team of 140 caregivers and teachers.

“I was truly impressed by the tour of the facilities and seeing how these young people are being trained in various skills,” shared philanthropist, Collen Mashawana.

Beyond offering a meaningful human connection to these youngsters, The Collen Mashawana Foundation also generously donated school shoes and classroom furniture to the school and committed to providing financial support to ensure the children receive the care they deserve.

The visit easily transformed a regular school day into a moment of pure, uplifting kindness for hundreds of young people who likely appreciated every little bit of it!

“Supporting individuals with disabilities is one of our primary goals, as we strive to give them a fair opportunity to thrive in society,” CMF added.
