While we all hunt for the very best Black Friday savings, there’s an opportunity around the corner to make some of these savings count even more. Its name is Giving Tuesday!
South Africa (29 November 2024) — There’s a special day that comes in the aftermath of Black Friday (and no, it’s not Cyber Monday). It’s a time when those who saved 25% off on smoothie makers and 50% off on the boots they’ve wanted to cop the whole year, take a portion of their Black Friday savings and make those savings count.
Giving Tuesday (observed on 3 December this year) is a day when the world gathers what it can to support causes that make the world a better place.
For some, it’s donating to the animal shelter where they adopted their best friend. For others, it’s supporting an organisation that takes care of their community’s public spaces. Or making a hungry child’s next few meals possible. For everyone, it means making a difference however you can.
Giving Tuesday also comes as a way to kickstart the season known for generosity. As many of us wrap up the goodies we caught online and bask in our Black Friday savings, we might spare a thought for those who will receive no gifts, no treats and no merriment without our kindness.
As animal welfare organisation TEARS puts it into perspective, “If each of our 52,000 Facebook followers donated only R50, we’d raise R2.6 million to support our rescue, treatment, education, rehabilitation and rehoming programmes for the next 4 months.”
How to Contribute to Giving Tuesday
There will be an abundance of campaigns on different crowdfunding platforms and on charities respective pages. You can visit a charity you know and love on their social media pages and find out more about what they are asking for this Giving Tuesday.
Some charities will have their own crowdfunds set up, while others might seek donations through their allocated donation pages on their websites.
If you aren’t sure where to donate to, check out our Charities List to find a cause that you love. This will help guide you through the different niches organisations support—from child welfare to organisation supporting the elderly.
You can also set up Giving Tuesday crowdfunding campaign for a cause via BackaBuddy, GivenGain or FundNation to name a few.
Happy Giving!
