Nelspruit, South Africa (22 March 2022) – The SPCA branches around the country come across the most harrowing cases of animal neglect and abuse, but they never lose hope. Day after day, they meet people who want the best for animals by donating to the cause and adopting animals that need homes.

Recently, Inspector Hardus Engelbrecht from the Nelspruit SPCA bonded with a rescued kitten. His colleague was called to the riverside after a group of children found the kitten in the pap bag.

“Inspector Mathews was alerted by distressed children in Emjindini, Barberton, about a bag on the banks of a river. The bag was tied with a rope and the children said something was moving inside the bag.

Mathews immediately rushed to the location and found a terrified kitten inside the bag. This is a horrific crime. This kitten had no chance of survival.”

Mathews quickly freed the kitten and took it back to the office where it was checked, and other than being nervous, she was in good health. Inspector Hardus named her Katie, and they quickly bonded.

“The kitten that was rescued after she had been tied up in a bag next to the river, was adopted by Hardus and named Katie. They are inseparable. His shoulder is her spot and nobody may touch her.

A happy ending to a situation that would have been a horrrific fate for this precious little soul if Mathews was not there on that morning.

May you have a wonderful life little one.” – Nelspruit SPCA

The SPCA branches all over South Africa take on cases like this. They hope to get every animal in their care, healthy and adopted somewhere safe, with someone who would give the animal the best life.

The various SPCAs rely on public funding to remain operational, so if you are looking for one in your area, we have a beneficial list here.
