Kristyn Smit Britz shared a story of how three surfers helped her son’s dream come true after he saved for months to buy his first ever surfboard.
We can all remember the very first time we bought ourselves something special with our hard saved pocket-money. The pride and accomplishment tied to that dedication is something to be looked back at fondly.
Kristyn Smit Britz shared her son’s experience with his very first hard-earned purchase. Jacques spent ages saving all his money so he could buy himself a surfboard from Sunset Surf at the West Coast Village, Table View. The day he realised he had enough money to finally buy his dream surfboard was a day filled with excitement.
Kristyn shared his experience on Facebook because it had a heartwarming ending.
“Yesterday we went into Sunset Surf at West coast village. The surfer there helped my son find a very cool board. It was exactly the amount Jacques had saved. The board didn’t come with fins or a leash though, the man said.”
Jacques only had enough money for the board so he agreed to carry on saving so he could buy the fins and leash. The next day they went to make the purchase. Within minutes Kristyn was in tears as three surfers came together to make sure that Jacques left the store with everything he would need.
“I explained that Jacques still needed to save a bit more for those (fins and a leash), but that we would like the board, please. Between the 3 surfer guys at Sunset Surf they organised Jacques free fins and a leash. Seeing my son’s excitement today was priceless. He was so proud that HE had bought HIS OWN board. His face was just alight with joy.”
“I honour the 3 surfers for making a little boy so happy, and I honour God for blessing us with 3 wonderful people who sold my son his board. As a mom, I couldn’t help but wipe away a few tears at the kindness these awesome men showed my son today. Thank you so much Sunset Surf Surfers! It’s great to know that we live in such a caring community who help each other.” – Kristyn Smit Britz
The community has thanked the surf shop for its dedication to this young boys dreams. Many have praised the owner for his kindness. The owner, Trevor Kemp, saw the post and decided to share his own message to Kristyn and the thankful community.
“The first thought that came to mind when reading the post and comments was how these “old and young surfers ” here at the shop have learned from this young guy and his mom- Kristyn, that how a small gesture (like fins and leash) can make a huge impact for someone.”
“So its a lesson we mustn’t forget and use it in our everyday life, from just appreciating the small things and a small helpful act can make a large impact that you might not even know. We are very impressed with this little man and how he saved and bought his own surfboard.” – Trevor Kemp, Sunset Surf owner.
