The International Children’s Palliative Care Network launched “Hats on for Children’s Palliative Care” to raise awareness for organisations offering support to families. Get your hat on and make a difference.

Global (06 October 2021) – The International Children’s Palliative Care Network (ICPCN) helps raise awareness for organisations around the world working in children’s palliative care. On Friday, the 8th of October, they encourage the public to put on a fun hat and support a palliative care organisation in your area.

Hats on For Children’s Palliative Care – with the hashtag #HatsOn4CPC – is a day for raising international awareness of the need for children’s palliative care and the work of children’s palliative care services worldwide.

The day takes place on the second Friday in October, the day before World Hospice and Palliative Care Day.  ICPCN established the day in 2016.

“This year, we are once again revising it due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic – we are again including masks – so it is ‘Hats and Masks on for Children’s Palliative Care’.” – ICPCN

So how do you join #HatsOn4CPC?

1. Put on your hat and mask and hold a fundraising or awareness-raising event.
2. Tag ICPCN on social media using #HatsOn4CPC, and they will share your photos and events.

You can join the event here. If you are looking for a local organisation to support, take a look at some we have found below.

The Rocking Horse Project

The Rocking Horse Project provides Palliative Care support to children and their families living in Eswatini (formerly Swaziland). The organisation pools resources to ensure children get the best possible care.

“We aim to improve the quality of life for children and young people with life shortening conditions. We work in hospitals, hospices and homesteads. We believe that the last days of these children should be as pain free and as happy as possible.

It is our privilege to do whatever we can to make the final wishes of our children come true.

We offer support and encouragement to paediatric palliative care teams as they undergo specialist training, sharing our expertise and skills if requested.”

You can support the organisation via their Facebook page here or the website here.

Patch South Africa

PatchSA supports families, individuals and organisations providing palliative care to children. They provide information, resources, strategic support, networking opportunities and specialised training in children’s palliative care within South Africa.

“Palliative care is NEVER about giving up hope. It is about making every moment count and helping families think about what hope may look like for their child.”

PatchSA has a network of organisations working with children. They will be able to direct you to an organisation closest to you. You can join the South African event here. For more information about PatchSA, check out the Facebook page here or the website here.
