Robert Irwin and HRH Prince William recently enjoyed a slice of South Africa. Here’s where they went and what they loved!

Cape Town, South Africa (08 November 2024) — Robert Irwin and HRH Prince William enjoyed a slice of South Africa recently thanks to their trip to the Western Cape for the 2024 Earthshot Awards—Prince William’s big effort for eco-goodness.

It’s always exciting to see what tourists love about our country when they come to visit, and even more thrilling when said tourists are ones the world largely look up to!

Here’s a little breakdown of where the two went in and around the Mother City:

Somerset West

Robert Irwin paid local cheetah heroes (and their dogs) a visit at The Cheetah Outreach Trust—a non-profit organisation working hard to ensure the survival of the free-ranging, Southern African Cheetah!

Bree Street

Prince William visited the Earthshot Prize’s Youth Leaders Programme at Rooftop on Bree, where he met 120 young eco-change-makers.

Langa

Prince William popped in to visit the VUSA Rugby & Learning Academy in Langa much to the excitement of the primary school pupils present! VUSA are on a mission to support young learners in the area with academic and sport support; and Prince William’s visit saw the showcasing of their new Digibus—an innovative mobile education project as donated, in part, by the Atlas Foundation.

Signal Hill

Both His Royal Highness and Robert Irwin teamed up for a trek along Signal Hill—AKA, one of the best lookout spots in Cape Town.

They got to hike the famous hill and learned about the important work that the Table Mountain National Park rangers and volunteers conduct there, with Robert commending the efforts as ‘brilliant’.

Prince William deemed the Cape “a biodiversity hotspot home to rare and endangered species’ and similarly applauded all the rangers’ hard preservation work.

President Ramaphosa’s House

Prince William met with Uncle Cyril at his official residence in Cape Town, where he thanked our president for his warm welcome.

Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden

The Prince then went on to meet the 15 Earthshot finalists at the ever-gorgeous Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens.

Green Point

At The Earthshot Prize Dome atop Green Point Shared Fields, both Robert Irwin and Prince William got to enjoy the excellence that was Earthshot 2024.

“There is hope for the future of our beautiful planet!” remarked the young Irwin.

The five winners have officially been announced, and you can read all about their ideas that are changing the future of our environment for the better, here!

Simon’s Town

Today, Prince William has headed off to Simon’s town to meet with the lifesaving team that is the NSRI.
