For Data Analytics student, Lukho Phuti, the nightmare of a stolen laptop, a lifeline to coursework and career, was soothed thanks to a gift that proved the profound impact of workplace kindness.
Pretoria, South Africa (06 November 2025) – Few things are as devastating as unexpectedly losing one of your most prized possessions – particularly if they are essential for your work and you can’t immediately replace them.
Lukho Mkwedi Phuthi felt a pit in her stomach moments after her laptop was stolen at the parking lot at her workplace two months ago.
In a recent post, Lukho expressed how the ordeal caused her much stress, especially since she was also a Data Analytics student and being without a laptop or computer was simply not an option.
“Management at work allowed me to use this other PC that everyone has access to,” Lukho shared.
After two months of that struggle, the most unexpected thing happened. One of her colleagues surprised her with a laptop as a gift to call her own!
Lukho admits she couldn’t help but break down in tears at the unexpected yet perfectly timed gesture that would allow her to continue her work and assignments with ease.
“Ulungile uBawo (God is good),” she said.
And just as she was taking in that moment of generosity, Lukho also received a message from her sister offering to buy her a washing machine so she didn’t have to struggle with handwashing anymore.
“Nothing can compare to the tears I cried today. 30 October, I will never forget you,” an emotional Lukho said.

Several of Lukho’s friends and followers flooded her post’s comments section with kind words expressing their joy at her good fortune, which was a direct reflection of her perseverance against the odds.
Now that’s a wonderful ending to a very stressful predicament. One colleague’s generosity hasn’t only saved a data analytics student’s semester, but it has also demonstrated the power of workplace compassion.
