The Christmas gifting initiative might have been a little delayed but the impact was anything but. Zach rallied his community to collect a mountain of school supplies for Merrydale Primary in Mitchells Plain after learning about the extent of the need.
Cape Town, South Africa (05 February 2025) – Zach McDonald, the very special boy behind the Zach Gives Back movement, brought a wave of goodness to Merrydale Primary School in Mitchell’s Plain.
With the crazy rush last year, Zach’s Christmas Gifting turned into a “Christmas Gifting in February”. Undeterred by the delay, Zach tirelessly rallied his community and supporters to help him realise his dream of helping the disadvantaged learners of the school with stationery.
Zach managed to collect various school supplies such as exam pads, lined workbooks, reams of white paper, sharpeners, scissors, erasers, rulers, glue sticks, coloured pencil crayons, coloured roll-up crayons, crayons, markers, HB writing pencils, children’s clothing, children’s socks, children’s shoes, children’s juice or water bottles, shin pads, and sports kits.
“We ventured to a staff member’s home to deliver the goods and as always our hearts were warmed by the gratitude given at the drop-off.
“We have no doubt in our minds that the kids at Merrydale who Zach has managed to gift will be so extremely grateful for all the goods they receive,” shared Zach’s mother Tanielle McDonald.
A grateful Zach extended his thanks to everyone who contributed towards his stationery drive, adding that the gifting initiative helped him realise just how blessed many of us are and how often we take the simplest things for granted.
“I may not have been able to help the school but I know that some of the kids that I have been able to help will really appreciate all the goods,” said the 11-year-old who believes that power is the ability to do good for others.
