An unknown couple got engaged in New York but the future groom-to-be got so excited he dropped the ring down a drain, the NYPD got it back and the hunt began to find them.
The day you get engaged is one that will be memorable forever but if something crazy happens, like dropping the ring down a drain, that is an unforgettable day. That is exactly what happened to a tourist couple in New York.
The groom-to-be got so excited when his fiancé said yes that he fumbled and dropped the ring down a drain. For the next two hours, the couple and a few helpers did everything they could to try to get the ring back but it was impossible. Eventually, they lost hope and gave up, leaving the spot where the ring was dropped.
While all this was happening, a New York Police Department camera caught the entire debacle on film. A team was sent down to the drain to collect the ring, which they did successfully. They even took the time to have the ring cleaned.
The NYPD then took to Twitter with the footage to seek out the couple. The started a social media “man-hunt” to try reunite the couple with their ring.

The Tweet went viral and the not-so-happy couple saw it. The couple were from the United Kingdom and on a holiday when the incident occured. They were a few hours away from flying home when they lost the ring which was why they had to give up getting the ring back on that day.
Once they were found they were able to clear up the situation. According to John Brennan, he successfully proposed to Daniella Anthony in Central Park on the 10th anniversary of their first date. It was a few hours later that the ring was lost when it slipped right off Daniella’s finger. She had told him the ring was too big but he insisted she wear it.

Their friend saw the Twitter video and let them know immediatly.
“We could not believe it, we really thought it was gone,” Anthony told BBC. “We don’t use Twitter – we had absolutely no idea this was going on. But we are so happy.”
“We are so thankful to everyone – especially the New York Police Department and everyone who shared our story,”
The NYPD announced the end of their search this weekend with a Twitter post saying,
“The (now) happy couple is back in their home country, but thanks to your retweets they heard we were looking for them! We’re making arrangements to get them their ring back. Congratulations!”
Now they can live happily ever after.
