Springbok Fan Surprise

The Rugby Mavericks surprised the fan with a Springbok cap signed by players while he was braaiing at a tailgate ahead of the big Test.

Baltimore, USA (14 September 2026) – The Springboks’ trip to Baltimore brought with it plenty of stories that had nothing to do with what happened on the rugby field.

South Africans travelled long distances to be there, supporters gathered from different parts of the United States, and familiar South African traditions made their way into the build-up to the big game.

One of those moments was captured by the Rugby Mavericks, who surprised a South African rugby fan while he was busy braaiing at a tailgate ahead of the Springboks’ clash with the All Blacks.

The fan was standing at the back of his van, getting the braai going and preparing food for those around him, when the Rugby Mavericks girls arrived with a Springbok cap signed by players.

The surprise clearly meant a lot. As the fan took in what he had been given, one of the girls explained that the man was actually her dad.

It was a small moment in the middle of a huge weekend of rugby, but it captured something we saw plenty of around Baltimore.

Long road trips and plenty of green and gold as supporters made their way to the stadium to watch the Springboks live.

And for this fan, he got to take home a little extra piece of Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry.
