A lifeguard helping an elderly woman at Scottburgh Beach turned into a heartwarming reminder of South African helpfulness!
Scottburgh, South Africa (05 August 2026) – There’s a special kind of magic in the way South Africans move through the world, but nowhere is it more obvious than when things don’t go quite as planned.
You could be staring blankly at a flat tyre, looking lost in an unfamiliar suburb, or searching around for the car keys you accidentally dropped in the parking lot, but before you’ve even had the chance to ask for help, someone is already stepping in to offer help!
This helpful nature was captured by chance when a beachgoer spotted a lifeguard at Scottburgh Beach helping an elderly woman up the beach stairs. The quiet hero in red linked arms with her, carefully guiding her to the top of a climb that several locals admit is no easy feat.
The footage was shared by Cliff Bamber, who couldn’t help but admire how the local lifeguards are always willing to help someone who may be experiencing any kind of trouble or in need of assistance getting to or from the beach.
Social media users were just as appreciative of the lifeguards’ thoughtfulness and hospitality. These are some of the good things they had to say:
“We were sitting at the beach when the lady slipped. Before I could get up, the lifeguards were there helping her up. I said to my wife they go far beyond their duties. A huge shout out to the guys,” shared Mike Paulsen.
“Kudos to our helpful lifeguards, thanks Cliff for capturing this amazing video and to the lifeguards for their dedication and hard work,” shared Barbara Bursik Tedder
