Joshua started a soup kitchen to help people he saw in need, he started it in July 2018 and he is such an inspirational young man!
Gordon’s Bay, Western Cape (15 September 2020) – Little Joshua has a heart of gold and a drive to do good in the world. He started a soup kitchen in 2018 with the hopes to feed people who have very little in the world.
The project started on the 30th of July 2018. Joshua had filled 40 bags of food goodies for the elderly. His grandma said it took some time but he managed to collect enough to gift the elderly a little treat. He had seen children around him hungry, so he asked if they could make sandwiches and soups to feed them and their families.
Joshua knows struggles too, he lives with his granny Manda Roos, who supports them both on a disability pension. It was because of this he wanted to be the difference in other children’s lives. Since starting the soup kitchen, it has grown into something truly special.
He has sold boerewors rolls to raise money to help in other ways. One of the foster homes his little kitchen supports needed more than just food so he helped fund repairs on their waterline into the kitchen and replaced broken windows. They also fixed beds and got an industrial washing machine fitted.
Since we featured his story last year. Joshua has reached even more people. Now, supporting people through the lockdown, Joshua has been raising funds via BackaBuddy. Manda hopes to help Joshua raise R50,000 which will go towards building up more food parcels for the elderly.
“To continue helping the less fortunate people and institution’s in our community. I need funds to help buy foods or help with upgrading and even sometimes just to acknowledge our front-line personnel in the health and security forces, I constantly need funds to keep up with the latest demand in people who lost their jobs or even people who struggle just with putting food on their table day to day. All the projects I have done so far was what God has put in my heart and also with all future projects.
Reaching our target means that we will be able to help more people by putting food on their tables and seeing that someone can at least be able to go to bed with a full stomach especially children and the elderly, and that will be an accomplishment” – Manda Roos
Joshua is passionate about helping others. He misses hosting children from his community and looks forward to the day when the lockdown ends and it is safe to celebrate with the children again.
