Rural school children receive a helping hand from their local spaza shop owner who gets them to school on time and with enough energy for exams.
Wild Coast, South Africa – Imagine having to walk 20km or more to get to school to write exams. The fact that a child has to do this means they wake up before the crack of dawn and walk through heated conditions and by the time they reach school to write exams, they are tired.
Cool Bananas – a spaza shop located on the Wild Coast of South Africa – decided to offer lifts using their well-loved bakkie. They cater to the Tshani Village selling basic items but are using their vehicle to do so much more!
They often work to help the community when the need arises. For example, earlier this year a little girl hoped to pay her cousins pre-school fees so she approached the shop and asked if she could place a collection tin on their counter. The owner agreed and the much-needed school fees were raised just in time. We shared the uplifting story and it moved many of our readers too!
Now, Cool Bananas is once again doing something to empower education in their little village. Using their beat-up bakkie, they are helping students from the Sikoma Junior Secondary School get to school with more than enough energy to write important exams.
Cool Bananas believe that rural students and people matter too and are always happy to lend a helping hand.
