Campus protection staff member, speedy Siyabonga, proved his pace and stamina recently after earning bronze at an ultramarathon! Needless to say, with Siyabonga around, students safety couldn’t be in better hands:

Cape Town, South Africa (09 April 2024) — A campus protection staff member for the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) has showed off his speed and stamina after he undertook an ultramarathon in the Eastern Cape! Needless to say, students can feel more than safe with speedy Siyabonga Madala helping make them feel safe at their place of learning.

CPUT praised Siyabonga’s efforts at the Real Gijimas 50km ultra-marathon, where he earned himself a bronze medal in the university’s colours! Representing the CPUT Athletics Club, the Campus Protection Services team member shared that the experience was very special to him, especially as he was backed by so much support from other staff members.

A staff member of Campus Protection Services’ at CPUT since 2014, Siyabonga has become part of the furniture at the learning institution. With a love of running that’s been with him since he was in school himself, he’s worked hard to train his mind and body to take part in the race; training on his off days and after work.

When he’s not running, Siyabonga plays an important role in making CPUT a safer place to learn. Given that the institution has an ‘open’ campus—security is key to making sure the student community and infrastructure are looked after.
