Grade 2 golfer Carter Ross will be competing in the World Championships in the USA at only seven years old, where he’ll shoot for the stars!
Global (31 July 2024) — All eyes might be on the City of Lights at the moment as the Olympics epically unfolds, but our champs in Paris aren’t the only South Africans making us proud. In North Carolina on the lush Pinehurst Golf Course, a Grade 2 golfer from KwaZulu-Natal will compete in the World Championships—a feat for his province and country who are backing him all the way.
Carter Ross may only be in primary school, but he’s already proven himself a force to be reckoned with on the green.
With a goal to play at the master’s (something Carter emphasises he will do), the Grade 2 Golfer has already made an impressive start to his career.
He’s won eleven SA Kids Tournaments and multiple US Kids Tournaments and is the Junior Africa Champion of 2023 as well as the champ for the Big 5 South Africa, earning Top 3 in both 2023 and 2024.
With all these notches on his belt, it comes as little surprise that Carter would qualify for Worlds. On a proud note for his province, he is said to be the only child in KwaZulu-Natal who made the cut as Umhlali Preparatory School shares. Not to mention, he is only 7-years-old and making his way through the courses for Team South Africa.
Carter’s school couldn’t be more proud of his achievements, adding that if the legendary Grade 2 golfer should go on to win, he’d be the first South African ever to do so.
