The para-sport NPO, dedicated to empowering athletes with disabilities through surfing, walked away with the title of Recreation Body of the Year.
Durban, South Africa (07 September 2025) – A truly special moment unfolded at the 18th annual South African Sport Awards when KwaZulu-Natal’s Made for More was named ‘Recreation Body of the Year’. Hosted at the Sun City Superbowl, the event celebrated sporting excellence across the country. This win shone a light on the remarkable work the organisation has been doing in para-sport.
Based in Durban, Made for More uses para-surfing and other sporting opportunities to include, equip, and empower people with disabilities. Over the years, they have created platforms for athletes to grow in confidence, compete at provincial, national, and international levels, and most importantly, to find community and purpose through sport.

For General Manager Anele Zama, the award is a proud milestone shared with all athletes with disabilities, past and present.
“Winning this award is humbling, it belongs not only to our team but to every sportsman and woman with a disability. Those who have paved the way, those who are rising, and those still to come. The biggest Glory belongs to God. Without Him, none of this would be possible.”
Founded by Julia Van Zyl, Made for More started from a deep need to see children with physical disabilities not only educated, but celebrated and supported in every aspect of their lives. What began as small steps has now grown into a movement that inspires athletes, their families, and entire communities.
With this recognition, Made for More’s message says disability does not define limitation. Their work continues to show that with opportunity, support, and faith, athletes can reach their true potential and live passionate, purpose-filled lives.
