Lifesaving rising star Naor Lombard made the Clifton Surf Lifesaving Club and South Africa immensely proud in 2024. Now, as he dips his toes in the waters of new opportunities, he plans to fly the local flag even higher this year!

Global (21 January 2025) — 2024 marked a big year for Clifton Surf Lifesaving Club’s Naor Lombard.

For the rising star in lifesaving, it was a year that boasted achievements both in Naor’s personal capacity and for South Africa. His achievements include securing a top 10 placement in the iconic 43-kilometre endurance race Coolangatta Gold and competing as a senior National Team member in the World Championships!

In both these big events, Naor saw a good dose of progress. The lifesaver improved two spots from the previous year in the Coolangatta Gold heat and earned 6th place in his performance at the World Championships—his debut.

To take his career as a lifesaver to the next level, Naor has made a big move all the way to the Gold Coast.

Adjusting to Australia’s competitive lifesaving circuit has been both demanding and rewarding for the lifesaver but essential for his competitive edge.

“The competition here is unmatched,” Naor explains. “Racing through multiple heats at full intensity is a whole new level compared to back home.”

Despite the relocation, he is still determined to fly the South African flag high and hopes to compete in the Lifesaving SA Champs to represent Clifton Surf Lifesaving Club.

Beyond competing, Naor hopes to inspire other young nippers to dive into lifesaving professionally.

“If my journey can inspire even one young South African to pursue lifesaving professionally, it’s all worth it.”

His advice for South African athletes:

Focus on Progress: “Winning takes time—refine your skills and technique first.”

Prioritise Recovery: Rest, nutrition, and recovery are just as critical as training.

Hone Your Craft: Perfecting technique and skill is vital for long-term success.
