Lord’s Taverners South Africa hosted its fourth Table Cricket Tournament at the Oaks Room at Newlands Cricket Stadium recently, allowing young people with disabilities to enjoy a day filled with fun, sportsmanship and camaraderie.
Cape Town, South Africa (06 November 2024) – You may know about table tennis. But how about table cricket?
Table cricket, which lies at the heart of Lord’s Taverners South Africa, is an adapted version of cricket played on a table tennis table and specially designed to give young people with disabilities the chance to play and compete in the sport.
In October, the Oaks Room at Newlands Cricket Stadium came alive as Lord’s Taverners SA proudly hosted its fourth Table Cricket Tournament.
The event was a resounding success, drawing an impressive turnout with over five schools joining in the spirited festivities.
“Witnessing these enthusiastic young players come together to engage in thrilling matches was truly a heartwarming experience.
“The camaraderie and passion displayed on the tables highlighted the joy of sport and the importance of inclusivity in cricket. Everyone is already buzzing with excitement for the next tournament,” the organisation said.
Founded in 2016, Lord’s Taverners South Africa enriches the lives of disabled and disadvantaged children and youth through programmes like table cricket and the distribution of recycled sports equipment.
By using sport and recreation as a driving force, they provide young people with opportunities to develop their skills, build friendships, and experience the joy of playing.
They’re all about giving young people a sporting chance and bringing smiles to their faces – a cause we’re certainly fans of!
