This weekend, Brad Binder earned 2nd place on the podium at the Lusail International Circuit in Qatar, while Darryn Binder made his debut in MotoGP at 16th.

Qatar (07 March 2022) – Brad Binder #33 has earned his place on the MotoGP podium, coming in second for his first race of 2022. After months of preparation, he has made South Africans proud!

Binder started on the grid in seventh but made a fast start and was impressed with his consistent speed on the KTM to claim second place for the Austrian manufacturer.

Last week Brad shared that he has prepared well for this coming season. Brad Binder was ranked 11th in his first season and 6th in his second. This third season, he is preparing himself mentally and physically to take on the challenge – he is more ready than he has ever been and says his preparation for the season is the strongest it has ever been.

“I am happy with the way things ended at the end of last season, not with the results, but the way I was riding and we have got a bit of work to do but I am confident I can definitely improve my finish from last season” – Brad Binder

“Incredible. If you told me we’d be 2nd in Qatar after the first test I wouldn’t have believed you. Today was a great day, it was a great weekend. I knew we had a good level but I had so much confidence and belief in the bike from beginning to end. We made such a huge step. For us to be on the podium in Qatar is insane. Now we’re looking for more!” – Brad Binder

Darryn Binder’s Rise

Brad’s younger brother Darryn Binder has joined him in the premier class MotoGP, racing for Yamaha RNF MotoGP Team. He is racing as #40 and loving his experience so far. Darryn made his jump from Moto3 to MotoGP this year, and while he faced some criticism about the jump, he is excited to be following his dream. Darryn finished his first MotoGP race in 16th place.

We are excited to watch both brothers on their MotoGP journeys. Brad shared that he is excited to race against his brother.

The next race takes place on the 20th of March 2022 at the Pertamina Mandalika Circuit in Indonesia. You can see all the racing events for the year here.
