Ntando Mahlangu has just earned his second gold medal at the 2020 Paralympics, which pushes South Africa’s medal count to six!
Tokyo, Japan (03 September 2021) – Team South Africa has just landed medal number 6 thanks to Ntando Mahlangu, who earned a Gold Medal in the men’s 200m (T61) race. It is his second gold of the 2020 Paralympics and South Africa’s 4th gold.
This isn’t Ntando’s first Paralympics. He represented South Africa at the 2016 Paralympics in Rio, Brazil. During that time, Ntando earned himself a Silver for the same race he just earned his gold in.
Ntando runs using a set of prosthetic blades. Ntando received his artificial legs soon after his legs were amputated at the age of 10 — but he had to learn to walk all over again. He said it took him a week to get the hang of walking with his blades and about two weeks to run.
Ntando has become the pride of the nation. He has gone from a 14-year-old silver-winning athlete at the 2016 Paralympics to the double gold-winning athlete he is today.
We are so incredibly proud of his win and cannot wait to welcome this rising star home!
26 years between them…
