Ranked number one nationally for two years running, Ilhaam is preparing to take on elite junior karate athletes at the WKF Youth League in Fujairah.

South Africa (08 January 2026) – At just 17 years old, Ilhaam Amod is already making her mark on South African karate.

The rising star has earned her Protea colours through years of discipline, consistency and hard work, and now stands as one of the country’s most promising young talents. Ranked number one in her division nationally for two consecutive years, Ilhaam’s journey has been defined by early mornings and intense training sessions to keep improving.

Her latest milestone sees her selected to represent South Africa at the WKF Youth League in Fujairah, United Arab Emirates. This is one of the most prestigious international platforms for junior karate athletes. The event brings together the best young competitors from around the world and is widely regarded as a proving ground for future champions of the sport.

For Ilhaam, the opportunity is about far more than medals.

Competing at this level offers invaluable international exposure, experience against elite opponents and a chance to test herself on a global stage. It also places her among a growing generation of young South African women who are pushing boundaries and reshaping what success in sport looks like.

Those close to her describe an athlete who balances school, training and competition with remarkable focus. Her rise through the ranks has been steady, earned through performance rather than hype, and her selection for the WKF Youth League is a reflection of just how far her commitment has taken her.

As preparations continue ahead of the February event, support from the wider community could play a key role in helping Ilhaam take this next step in her career. International competition comes with significant costs, and contributions will go directly towards making her participation at the Youth League possible.

For those looking to back a homegrown talent and support a young athlete representing South Africa on the world stage, more information on how to assist Ilhaam’s journey can be found here.
