The U12 tennis team for South Africa earned two gold medals and earned their place at the U12 World Finals later this year, let’s meet them…

 

South Africa (01 August 2023) – The next generation of South African tennis stars are already making names for themselves and flying the flag high at competitions. The U12 team set off for Maputo, Mozambique in late July and both the boys’ and girls’ teams brought home the gold!

The boy’s team was made up by Mpho Bowers, Keegan Groenewald, and Nicholas Kruger and the girl’s team by Lea Dube, Megan van Vuuren, and Lily Haley. Each of the players performed well at the ITF/CAT Southern Africa 12 & Under team competition in Maputo.

Tennis South Africa shared their success on Facebook recently, saying:

“Congratulations to the SA under-12 team for their amazing success at the ITF/CAT Southern Africa 12 & Under team competition in Maputo! 🥇 The boys’ team dominated the tournament with Mpho Bowers, Keegan Groenewald, and Nicholas Kruger securing 3-0 victories against all opponents to claim the gold medal. The girls’ team, with Lea Dube, Megan van Vuuren, and Lily Haley, had a remarkable performance, losing only one match but securing impressive wins in the rest. Both teams have now qualified for the U/12 World final team event later this year.

Well done to these talented young athletes and their coaches for their outstanding achievement!”
