The court can’t wait for Kgothatso Montjane and Donald Ramphadi to unite as they gear up for the Australian Open! If you aren’t already, here are a few reasons to root for the superstars:
South Africa (09 January 2024) — Kgothatso Montjane and Donald Ramphadi are certified legends in South African tennis. Individually, the pair have achieved remarkable accomplishments for our country, from moments for the history books to title-dominations. And, both of these South African stars are considered among the world’s top wheelchair players.
Now, they’re preparing to keep their legendary energy strong and ready to rumble as they anticipate none other than the Australian Open 2024.
Here, the best of the best in wheelchair tennis will join forces to compete in Melbourne Park near the end of the month (23 to 27 January).
Sixteen men, sixteen women and sixteen Quad players will compete, with Kgothatso Montjane ranked 11th in the Women’s Entry List and Donald Ramphadi ranked 5th in the Quad Entry List.
A Few Reasons to Root for Kgothatso and Donald if You Aren’t Already
- Kgothatso made tennis history by becoming the first African woman to win a title at the NEC Wheelchair Singles Masters and ITF Wheelchair Doubles Masters.
- Donald Ramphadi was the first South African (able-bodied or adaptive athlete) to win a Grand Slam title in decades.
- Kgothatso is also a Grand Slam Champion!
- She was also SA’s first black woman to reach a Wimbledon Singles final.
- Donald was ranked the top-seed male wheelchair tennis player in 2022.
