There should be no place for bullying in our schools, and the Grade 5 learners of St Mary’s DSG recently stood together to make that known – silently yet powerfully.
Kloof, South Africa (09 June 2026) – We all look and speak differently, come from different backgrounds, and enjoy different things. But those differences should never be used against us.
Whether you have experienced bullying personally or know a loved one who has, its impact can be deeply harmful. It takes away the need to feel safe, valued, and seen for who we truly are. At its worst, it leaves deep, often invisible scars that can last a lifetime.
Recently, the young Grade 5 learners of St Mary’s DSG in Kloof took a powerful stand against bullying through a silent protest.
As part of their Life Orientation programme, they spent the past three weeks unpacking what bullying looks like and learning how to stand up against it.
The girls then brought their voices to life through creative slogans and posters, which they designed on Canva. A video shared by the school online showed the young activists holding up their colourful posters around the school with their mouths taped closed as part of their demonstration.
Some of their calls to action read:
“Don’t be two-faced, have good friend taste”
“Use your diva-ness, not your evilness”
“Don’t be a barrier, be your friend’s carrier”
“Be a friend, not a foe”
“Don’t be mean, be a kind machine”
These anti-bullying statements will now serve as daily reminders for the entire school community, as they have been displayed in the Senior Primary – affirming that the St Mary’s family stands firmly together in saying there is no place for bullying at its school!
Schools should feel safe, homes should be warm, social media should never be used as a tool to cause harm, and communities should be united in uplifting their members. We couldn’t be prouder of these girls and their efforts to contribute to a world where bullying has absolutely no place!
