Sweet Pittie Gets Her Puppies Back Thanks to Determined Helpers

This sweet pittie’s rescue took a turn when vets realised she had a litter of puppies waiting for her somewhere. The most beautiful reunion followed, carried out by an army of helpers.

Western Cape, South Africa (05 August 2026) – When a gentle pit bull cross arrived at Teva Veterinary Clinic after being found wandering near Riviersonderend in late July, the hope was that she’d soon be reunited with her family.

She was. But the reunion wasn’t the one anyone had hoped for.

After local animal welfare officers traced her owners, they learnt the heartbreaking news that they no longer wanted her. Instead of going home, the sweet-natured doggie would need a brand-new beginning. Before that could happen, her rescuers had to act quickly.

Clover, as she has since been named, had recently been nursing puppies. The very young pups were waiting for their mom in Riversonderend where she was rescued, and the people caring for her were determined to find them and reunite them with mom.

“Sadly, the engorgement of her teats implied that the puppies were still very young and would really need mom still, let alone her being separated from her babies. The staff at Teva would not let it go, and all efforts were made to locate mom’s babies…” shares The Barking Ark.

Teva Vet, Animal Welfare Helderberg, Caledon Dieresorg and helpers worked behind the scenes to find and bring the pups to their mum. Thanks to their extraordinary efforts, the puppies were found. Kind souls made the trip to fetch them, and the little family was reunited!

Safe together again, the little family is now in the care of Animal Welfare Helderberg, where they’re receiving everything they need while they wait for permanent homes, which they will need to find soon.
