It’s just a pair of shoes, but for this homeless man, they meant everything.

Engine 6 of the City of Riverside Fire Department in California was returning from training when they spotted an elderly man walking slowly along the freeway barefoot.

The firefighters aboard Engine 6 decided to pull over and help him.

Firefighter David Gilstrap offered the tennis shoes he had on the engine and Captain Rob Gabler walked over and assisted the elderly gentleman with putting the shoes on. They also gave the man some water.

Thanks to the kindness of these firefighters, this man no longer has to trudge down the rocky roadway barefoot anymore.
