A trolley full of handmade blankets is helping keep animals warm at Tshwane SPCA while inspiring winter kindness.
Tshwane, South Africa (08 June 2026) – Winter’s tendrils are creeping across South Africa, so it is incredibly heartwarming to see everyday South Africans making an effort to take the bite out of the cold for those in need. One such person is the talented Linda Van Berkel, who donated handmade blankets to the Tshwane SPCA recently.
The warm felt blankets filled an entire trolley! The SPCA team wasted no time in thanking Linda for her efforts, sharing that the donation would go a long way to bringing warmth to animals in need.
“We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to Linda Van Berkel for the beautiful handmade blankets she so generously donated to the Tshwane SPCA.
Each blanket was lovingly made by hand, and we truly appreciate the time, effort and care that went into creating them.
These warm blankets will make a wonderful difference to the animals in our care, especially during this icy cold weather. They will help bring warmth, comfort and a little extra love to those who need it most.
Thank you, Linda, for your kindness, generosity and beautiful heart towards our animals. We are truly grateful for your support.”
Supporters loved the donation, calling it a “beautiful labour of love for animals”.
For those who want to lend a helping hand this winter, there is obviously the blanket drive option, but below are some alternatives you can do to make
- Donate food and treats – Shelters go through huge amounts of pet food during the winter months.
- Give essential supplies – Cleaning products, newspapers, washing powder and disinfectants are always needed.
- Help lighten the load – Washing always piles up in the winter months. Help the team by washing some of their load.
- Sponsor food or vet care – Even small donations can help cover meals, medicine or winter costs.
- Volunteer your time – Walking dogs, doing laundry or helping with transport makes a big difference.
