Last year we could visit 98 countries this year the lastest visa-free list included 101 countries a South African can travel to.

South Africa (03 October 2019) – The South African passport can sometimes feel heavy because of all the hoops one needs to jump through to travel the world but there is a great big world out there. Now we can visit 101 countries as opposed to the 98 on the list last year and the 94 we had on the list the year before.

When consulting the Passport Index, we noted that while some countries are listed as visa-free, the others you can pay for the visa upon entry or exit of the country. With these exceptions in mind, they make up a total of 101 countries in 2020. Some eVisa countries were included in the list while other eVisas were excluded.

Below is the compiled list of countries that South Africans can visit without a visa (60) or you can apply for a visa upon arrival or prior using the eVisa method (38).

There are four classifications on the list which include red (meaning full visa required), blue (meaning visa on arrival or eVisa), green (meaning visa-free) and gold (to be honest, we are not quite sure what this one means).

There are three other countries which are added to the list of South African passport holder’s ease of travel. They are in the gold section and are: Cote d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast) – (Pre-Enrollment), India (eVisa) and Sri Lanka (eTA / 30 days).
