When Inothando fell critically ill at work and grew weaker awaiting her ride to the doctor, her driver immediately recognised her distress and his instincts to help kicked in.

South Africa (29 June 2025) – One South African woman was recently overcome by the kindness of a stranger, her Uber driver, who went out of her way to help her when she unexpectedly fell ill at work.

Inothando Xanywa started showing signs of being unwell on Wednesday when she was told to go home. She requested a ride with the intention of going to the doctor, but while waiting, she could feel herself becoming weaker.

When the ride finally arrived, she jumped in, but it didn’t take long for the driver to realise that she wasn’t okay. Concerned for Inothando’s well-being, he prayed and sought the nearest hospital.

They soon arrived at the emergency room, where the man ran in the rain to find assistance before Inothando was attended by healthcare workers while he filled out a file for her using her available details.

Once in the staff’s care, he left Inothando his number with a message offering to pick her up when she was discharged from the hospital.

“This morning I woke up and saved his number. I’m so emotional because I almost died. Athi-Bhozo [the driver] really helped me,” said Inothando.

In a Facebook post that has resonated with many, Inothando also shared a screenshot showing the message she sent to the driver, thanking him for going the extra mile to help her and extending generosity and selflessness to her.

“Your kindness and care made a huge difference in a difficult moment, and I’m so grateful to have encountered you. Please know that your good deed won’t be forgotten,” Inothando wrote.

The power of humanity is all around us; it’s boundless, and it saves lives. We’re so glad Inothando received the urgent medical care she needed in a very crucial moment, thanks to the selfless actions of a man who was more than just a driver.
